Grief changes the meaning of freedom. For Parris LaVon, “FREE” is an intensely personal examination of life after losing his mother, confronting the difficult process of moving forward when someone central to your world is no longer there. Taken from his 2025 EP CRY 4 C4NCER, the song now receives a visual treatment that brings another dimension to its emotional narrative.
Directed by Alexis Smoot and produced with the team and students of Full Sail University, the music video represents a significant collaborative effort. The university brought LaVon to Orlando for the production, providing the resources to translate his deeply personal story into a visual experience.
Rather than presenting grief as something with a straightforward resolution, “FREE” addresses the altered perspective that follows profound loss. The project extends beyond a conventional music-video release, giving LaVon an opportunity to share his mother’s impact on his life while exploring what freedom and healing mean in her absence. Its emotional significance lies in that deeply human experience of learning to live with loss.
