oktehya Turns Forbidden Attraction Into Tension on “complicated”

oktehya

There’s a lot to be defined in ourselves by the way we connect, attract, attach to, and treat others

– oktehya

Pacific Northwest artist oktehya enters a revealing new chapter with a changeable feast, a five-track EP centered on the ways relationships can expose parts of ourselves we have yet to fully understand. Raised around music and later shaped by Seattle’s Capitol Hill underground scene, she built her artistry from the ground up, teaching herself Pro Tools and FL Studio, playing multiple instruments, and writing every one of her own toplines and lyrics.

Focus track “complicated” captures one of the EP’s most uncomfortable emotional spaces: wanting someone you know you probably shouldn’t. Rather than turning that attraction into spectacle, oktehya centers the unspoken tension between two people carrying a secret neither is ready to name. It is desire complicated by awareness, restraint, and consequence.

That emotional ambiguity fits naturally beside songs like “4L” and “catch//release,” expanding an era built around attachment, loyalty, and self-discovery. With a changeable feast, oktehya is not simply documenting relationships; she is examining what they reveal about the person inside them.
