Kaemani Explores Love & Vulnerability on “Better To Have Loved”

Kaemani
Kaemani reflects on the emotional complexities of modern relationships in “Better To Have Loved,” the lead single from an upcoming EP set for release this fall. Inspired by Alfred Tennyson’s timeless line, “’Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all,” the song questions whether the pain of vulnerability is truly worth the risk. Through thoughtful lyricism, Kaemani explores the uncertainty that comes with opening one’s heart in today’s dating landscape.

The record blends contemporary R&B with influences from the golden era of 2010s soul, echoing the emotional depth found in artists like Tamar Braxton, Mario, and Beyoncé, while also channeling modern voices like Giveon and Muni Long. Produced in collaboration with Drezar, the track captures a rich, heartfelt atmosphere that allows Kaemani’s introspective storytelling to shine.

Growing up in the South Suburbs of Chicago, Kaemani developed a deep love for music early in life, and that passion is evident in the emotional honesty of this record. “Better To Have Loved” doesn’t pretend to have all the answers, but it ultimately suggests that even after heartbreak, the courage to love again remains.
