Did you get the memo about what happened on Saturday Night Live? The Korean Pop Group BTS rocked the Studio 8H, in what can be described as “taking the world by storm”.
The appearance of the K-Pop group BTS marks a monumental milestone as they beat every existing K-pop group to be the first to be featured on the comedy show.
In case you don’t know about the K-Pop group BTS, a quick note about them is that this music group came into limelight in 2013, when they dropped an album called “2 Cool 4 Skool”.
In 2017, they officially made their name – BTS – to mean “Beyond The Scene” and you may hear some variations of their name as the Bangtan Boys, or Bodan Shonen Dan (as most of their Japanese fans call them).
Most of the time, you will hear their curious and committed fans called themselves BTS “army” and call this 7-group member team BTS “Idol”. Their names are J-Hope, Suga, Jin, Kim Namjoon, Jimin, V and Jungkook.
Recently, they have been able to capture the hearts and love of American audience as they have been able to break through cultural limits.
This is evident by being able to perform their rap and songs live in Korean while on an American Show. Interestingly, this is easy for them because most of the guys on the team are bilingual.
On Saturday Night Live (SNLL), the K-Pop group BTS dazzled the teeming audience with two of their songs – the newly released “Boy With Luv” and “Mic Drop”.The song “Boy With Luv” has made it to the top of the chart on iTunes since K-Pop group BTS released into the market.
BTS and other groups in the same niche are helping to step up the game of K-Pop around the world and their effort is catching up fast to become an international movement.
For the past two years, BTS has won the “Top Social Artist” Billboard Music Award. They are the first Koreans to win that award. This year, they have been nominated for both “Top Group” and again for “Top Social Artist” Billboard Music Award.
Their fame as a group is growing at a sporadic rate. As confirmed by their Management Company, the pre-orders for “Map of the Soul: Persona” have surpassed 3 million copies. With this number of pre-orders, it is expected that when they finally launch this album, it will likely demolish the international sales charts. In fact, their two most recent two albums “Love Yourself: Tear” and “Love Yourself: Answer” has sold nothing less than 4 million copies. This is the beginning of great things to come in the pop music industry.
Another milestone that the K-pop group BTS has achieved in September, 2018 is being the first-ever K-pop Group to speak at the United Nation. They are not just into music for the fame or wealth, they have found a way to use their music to address real social issues.
Their success can be hinged on their ability to leverage the use of social media. They hold a number of Guinness World Records on being the most music video watched in a 24 hours. Their message engaged their audience on an emotional level as it is about self-love and human vulnerability.
The K-pop group BTS is here to stay and they are onto a lot of big things in the future.
